The
Scotsea trading system, by using
the latest network technologies
and providing access through the
internet, will allow members
to do business with ease and
security.
A
member
wishing to sell merely posts
product details on the exchange,
using Scotsea's clear
standardised definitions.
A
buyer
member seeking to buy a certain
type, quantity and quality of
product, likewise uses the
standardised system to post purchase
requirements.
Using their
own language for on-screen text,
the buyer and seller can then
negotiate on screen price,
quantity, size, quality, terms of payment
and delivery and other variable
conditions. Terms will be agreed
on-line in private "trading
rooms" following a standard format
as agreed by the
parties.
At
the same time, buyers and
sellers can discuss the transaction
informally using voice
connection, private text-based chat,
or videoconference, none of
which shall form part of the official
record.
Major
buyers and sellers, on
application to the Scottish Seafood Exchange,
may open their own personalised
trading rooms. This will allow
those buyers and sellers with
particular needs to include their
own special conditions as
standard terms.
Payment
options are designed to provide
maximum flexibility for the buyer,
while ensuring that the seller is
paid on time.

The
production of all the relevant
documentation is automatic and
designed to interface with
standard front office and back office
systems used by
members.
Access
on-line to a wide range of
service companies providing specialist
transport and logistics
services, packaging, ice, chemicals,
specialist consultants, legal
and financial services, email,
a members' forum, and other
help services will form part of
the package.
System
Security:
System security is a vital
consideration. The Scottish Seafood
Exchange will adopt the most up
to date surveillance and barrier
systems and will continually
review, update and maintain these
so that members can trade with
confidence, free from intrusion
and virus threat.
The
Cost of Membership: In order
to become a leading hub for the
trading of UK fish and shellfish,
the Scottish Seafood Exchange
must satisfy the continually
evolving needs of a very demanding
industry. Cost of membership must
be reflected in quality of service.
Proposals on membership fees
and other charges will be formulated
following full consultation with
the seafood and aquaculture industries.
